the construction of Khufu’s Pyramid
The most elaborate pyramid on Egypt's Giza plateau, Khufu’s Pyramid, has been studied by countless scholars. Virtually everything is known about it, except for the most important point: how it was built. Serious hypotheses put forward for the installation of 2,600,000 m3 of masonry are: the use of rudimentary wooden machines, mentioned by Herodotus; the straight frontal ramp, built by earth layers, mentioned by Diodorus of Sicily; and the spiral ramp made of dried mud bricks enveloping the pyramid.

The birth of a theory,
one man's intuition

On January 2, 1999, Henri Houdin, a retired engineer from the Ecole des Arts et Métiers (PA41), watches Le Mystère des Pyramides, a documentary by Jean François Delassus and François de Closets about the construction of the Pyramids. He confronts the theories put forward with his eye as an expert construction engineer. They don't stand up. And then it hit him: the pyramids were built from the inside out!
